UK Solar Wholesalers and Distributors: A Directory for Installers

The short answer

UK installers buy most kit from specialist solar distributors such as Segen, Midsummer, Wind & Sun and Solar Trading UK, and from electrical wholesalers with solar ranges such as Rexel and YESSS. Below: what each supplies, where it ships from and how trade accounts work, then what to check before you open one.

This list is not exhaustive and not ranked: specialists are in alphabetical order, then general merchants. Solar Surveys UK has no commercial relationship with any company listed and is not paid to include them. Every detail comes from the company's own website, checked on 7 October 2026. Confirm terms with the supplier before you order.

Specialist solar distributors

Solar and storage are their core business.

Alternergy

Describes itself as a trade-only B2B solar wholesaler, established in 2006, serving accredited installers and EPCs across the UK and Ireland. Panels, string, hybrid and micro inverters, batteries, flat-roof, pitched, in-roof and ground mounting, EV charging and accessories. Head office in Chiswick, warehouse in Rugby for free collections, next-day delivery (terms apply) and credit terms subject to application.

HDM Solar Wholesale

Calls itself "The Installer's Wholesaler" and lists solar panels, inverters, batteries and more. It runs a branch network, shows stock by branch online, and has a trade account sign-up and a training centre section on its site.

Midsummer Wholesale

An award-winning UK renewables wholesaler, in its words, stocking complete solar PV and heat pump kits: Longi, Jinko, Trina and AIKO panels; Fronius, SolarEdge, Enphase and Sungrow among its inverters; Renusol, K2 and Van der Valk mounting; Zappi among its EV chargers. Sites in Cambridge, Glasgow and Leeds; log in for trade pricing or apply for an account. Its Easy PV design software is free, with a paid Pro tier, and produces MCS-compliant reports, stringing checks, shading analysis and kit lists.

Powerland

A renewable energy distributor in Alcester, Warwickshire. Panels, hybrid, AC-coupled, string and micro inverters, batteries, mounting and EV chargers, plus battery energy storage systems up to 1000kWh. Next-day pallet delivery, its own delivery fleet and a trade portal with live stock and pricing.

Segen

Describes itself as the UK's largest wholesale distributor of solar PV, storage, EV chargers and heat pumps (its claim), founded in 2004 and master distributor of the Tesla Powerwall. Ships from a 265,000 sq ft distribution centre in Kent, next-day or timed, or click and collect. Account holders get an account manager and a 24/7 portal with live pricing, stock, documents, Quick Quote and a battery configurator. Its new Design Tool is aimed at residential installers and was listed as coming soon when we checked.

Solar Trading UK

Describes itself as one of the leading UK wholesale suppliers of solar PV equipment: panels, inverters, batteries, mounting and Viessmann heat pumps. Offices in London and Exeter, warehouses in Bolton and Swindon. Orders by 12pm go out next working day (mainland UK, subject to stock).

Triple Solar

A B2B solar distributor with 15+ years in the industry, shipping from a 180,000 sq ft warehouse next working day to site or branch if you order by the cut-off. Brands include AIKO, Jinko, Growatt and Sigenergy. Trade accounts are free, with an account manager.

Wind & Sun

In Leominster, Herefordshire, and in renewables since 1984. Panels, inverters, mounting, batteries, EV chargers and off-grid kit, plus system design help, including SMA-based commercial battery packages up to 50kW/120kWh. Trade accounts bring discount pricing, online ordering, training, technical support and referrals. Pallets go next working day to most mainland GB addresses, or you can collect.

Electrical and plumbing merchants with solar ranges

Handy for a local branch and accounts you may already hold. Check solar stock depth before relying on them for a commercial job.

Rexel UK

A Solar PV range of panels, inverters, batteries, mounting and optimisers (SolaX, Van der Valk, Jinko and others), NICEIC MCS installer training, next-day delivery on solar orders before 2pm and 200+ branches. When we checked, denmans.co.uk redirected to Rexel's site.

YESSS Electrical

Its YESSS Renewables division covers solar, battery storage, EV charging and heat pumps, with free design surveys and over 100 stores. It sells to trade and public customers.

City Plumbing

Better known for plumbing and heating, it lists panels, string, micro and hybrid inverters, mounting, in-roof kits, batteries and plug-in solar, including GoodWe and SolaX.

How to choose a solar wholesaler

Price matters, but lost install days cost more. Check:

  • Stock on what you fit. Check live stock on the panels, inverters and mounting you specify most. Running out of your inverter costs install days.
  • Technical support. Commercial jobs raise three-phase, export and storage questions. Ask who answers, and whether they know your brands.
  • Design help. Some offer software (Easy PV, Segen's portal tools) or design support (Wind & Sun, YESSS). Useful for quoting; the design is still yours.
  • Delivery to site. Wind & Sun and Solar Trading UK deliver pallets kerbside, so you need access and a way to unload. Ask about timed slots.
  • Credit terms. Trade pricing and credit are usually separate applications. On commercial jobs you often pay for kit before the customer pays you.
  • Warranty handling. Ask how a faulty inverter or panel is handled, through them or the manufacturer, and how fast a swap arrives.
  • Grid-compliant inverters. Your DNO application needs compliance evidence. The ENA's Type Test Register closed on 16 April 2024 and moved to Connect Direct, so check the exact model there.
  • MCS-listed products. Under MCS, only products with an active MCS Product Directory listing can be installed, battery storage excepted.

The connection rules themselves are covered in G98 explained, our G99 application guide for commercial solar and which DNO to apply to and how. For the scheme side, see MCS certification for solar installers.

Opening a trade account

Each supplier sets its own process, so treat this as a guide to what to have ready, not a checklist any of them publishes in full:

  • your company details: legal name, address, contact and, where you have them, company and VAT numbers;
  • what you install and roughly how much, since some accounts are aimed at businesses with regular requirements;
  • a separate credit application if you want terms rather than paying up front;
  • who in your business can order, and where deliveries should go.

What suppliers say: Solar Trading UK uses a short online form, usually decides within 24 to 48 hours, has no minimum order and expects invoices paid by Bacs. Alternergy offers credit terms subject to application.

Two or three accounts help when one supplier is out of stock.

Buying kit for commercial jobs

A commercial roof changes the order: more panels, three-phase inverters, more mounting and often storage. Things to raise with your supplier:

  • Volume. Segen says it handles anything from a set of stickers to a container of modules. On larger orders, ask about project pricing.
  • Reserving stock. Solar Trading UK lets account holders reserve equipment for upcoming projects. Commercial jobs can wait on a grid connection, so ask how long a reservation holds.
  • Storage. Powerland lists battery storage systems up to 1000kWh, and Wind & Sun SMA-based commercial packages up to 50kW/120kWh.
  • Delivery. Pallet drops are often kerbside. Agree access, a forklift or tail-lift and a delivery slot with the site before the lorry turns up.
  • Certification. MCS applies to electrical installations up to 50kW. Above that it does not apply, so check early what certification the customer and anyone funding the project expect.

Order quantities come from the survey: roof area, supply, point of connection and consumption. Our commercial solar survey checklist covers what to capture so the kit list is right first time.

Wholesalers supply kit, not customers

A good wholesaler keeps your installs moving, but it won't fill your diary. Once you have the accounts, the design tools and the grid paperwork sorted, the limit on growth is usually how many business owners you get in front of. Our guide to how to get commercial solar leads compares nine channels, and how to sell commercial solar covers turning a survey into a signed contract.

Solar Surveys UK books qualified commercial solar survey appointments with business owners for UK installers. You pay per booked appointment, with no retainer, from £400+VAT to £1,000+VAT per lead depending on system size; see how much commercial solar leads cost, what makes booked solar leads different from form fills, or browse our commercial solar leads.

UK solar wholesalers: FAQ

Can I buy solar panels wholesale without a trade account?

Sometimes. YESSS sells to trade and public customers, but Alternergy is trade only and Midsummer shows trade pricing only once you log in.

What do I need to open a solar trade account?

It varies, so check each form. Solar Trading UK asks for company details online and usually decides within 24 to 48 hours; Wind & Sun offers accounts to professional installers and others with regular requirements.

Do solar wholesalers deliver to site?

Many do. Triple Solar ships next working day to site or branch; Wind & Sun and Solar Trading UK deliver pallets kerbside, so plan access and unloading.

Do I have to use MCS-certified products?

On an MCS installation, yes: MCS's Installer Operating Requirements say only products with an active listing in the MCS Product Directory can be installed, with battery storage the exception. MCS covers electrical installations up to 50kW, so larger commercial systems fall outside it.

How do I check an inverter is G98 or G99 compliant?

Search the ENA's Connect Direct portal, which took over from the Type Test Register on 16 April 2024. Check the exact model, not just the range.

Which is the biggest solar distributor in the UK?

Segen describes itself as the UK's largest wholesale distributor of solar PV, storage, EV chargers and heat pumps. We have not checked market share figures, and this directory is not a ranking.

Can a solar wholesaler send me customers?

It is not their job. Wind & Sun lists referrals among its trade benefits, but wholesalers sell kit; commercial customers come from your own marketing, referrals or booked survey appointments.
